No child should be forced to leave their friends and families to walk for years with little food and water. Sadly, thousands of boys went through this when they tried to flee the war tearing their country apart. The second civil war in Sudan was a war caused when the government tried to force the Islamic religion on the people of Sudan. Then the north and south parts of the country started a war. This war was called the second civil war in Sudan and had the highest death toll since the World Wars. The second civil war in Sudan was a detriment because the war caused thousands of people lost their lives or families. According to They Poured Fire on us From the Sky, thousands of boys were separated from their families and forced to walk thousands of miles across the desert. My outside research states that the second civil war in Sudan lasted for seventeen years! (Bureau of African Affairs) The war ended in 2008 with a peace treaty that split Sudan into two countries; North Sudan and South Sudan.
I think that because of it’s enormous death toll, that the second civil war in Sudan was ultimately a detriment to society. Thousands of boys decided to flee their country and go to bordering countries such as Ethiopia. They called these boys the lost boys because they didn’t have a home or any family. In the nonfiction book They Pored Fire on us From the Sky, the lost boys talk about the horrible conditions they had to live in because of the war. “I was so weak that he darkness clouded my eyes. I tried walking but I collapsed.” (Deng, 174) The boys are very lonely without their families. In the book they talk about how many of their friends were sick or starved to death because of the war that forced them out of their villages and forced them to walk across the deserts of Sudan into bordering countries such as Ethiopia to find safe camps. Many of the boys moms and sisters were killed and burned in their houses. It was really sad for the boys to have to watch this horrible scene and for them to be raised with no parents. It was very sad that the boys felt that nobody wanted them, since the government wanted them to die and since they didn’t have many family members.
The second world war in Sudan was a very violent war that effected the lives of all the people living in Sudan in some way. The movie God Grew Tired of Us shows many boys who fled the war and moved to America. The beginning of the movie showed how the people had to walk for years to reach base camps where they were given some food and water (God Grew Tired of Us). It was really sad because it showed lots of little boys who were starving to death. This movie also showed the lasting impact of war because even after the boys were safe and living in America, they had nightmares about bombs and war (God Grew Tired of us). The boys also kept worrying about their friends and families that they left behind at the camp in Kaccuma. War can have a very strong impact a lot of people.
Although lots of people died during the second civil war in Sudan, the war did help the country by starting to form a stronger government. My outside research states that the war helped the people of Sudan by splitting the land into two countries; North and South Sudan, (Suliman,Civil war in Sudan) This can help the people because it is easier for the government to have control over a smaller part of land with less people. My research also states that the country is more peaceful after the war ended with a peace agreement, (Bureau of African affairs) Although the war did lead to a stronger government, it had some horrible consequences such as the huge death toll, and the destroyed cities.
Although a stronger government did emerge after the second civil war in Sudan, the end result was closer to a detriment than to a help to society. It is important for everyone to know about this war because lots of innocent people died and we should use it as an opportunity to make sure that the same situation doesn't happen to us here in the United States of America. It is important to know how many people suffered and lost their families from this war. It is also important to know why the war was caused and what we can do to keep it from happening again. This Revolution can affect everyone because almost everyone knows someone who was in the military fighting this war, or knows someone who lives in Sudan.

Reflection:
Evidence-
From my personal revolution, I gained confidence because I showed myself that I could be a vegetarian if I wanted to. I also gained more respect for the food I choose to eat because of the documentaries I watched about where my food comes from. Prof of this is in my blog because I often talk about how I gained more knowledge about food. I also gained more confidence with cooking because at first I used to burn everything even toast so now I feel more confident. I also feel very proud for have been able to actually be a vegetarian for the whole 24 days without breaking. This shows in my last entry because I talk about how I feel proud of myself.
Supposition-
For the Spring exhibition, I will want to keep how I finish my work on time or early because that really helps me complete the project well. I like finishing early because then I have time to go back and correct my work and make it better. What I would change is partnerships. I liked being partners with my partners and we worked well together but sometimes one of the partners in our three-some got left out and did not contribute as much. I also would like to think bigger next time because our little model was not as cool looking as some of the bigger working catapults and things. Next time I want to do a better job at planning ahead with my whole group.
