Project Overview
The purpose of this project was to understand how everyone experiences challenges and successes in their lives. We also had to learn how to create a balance scale. We learned that in order for the scale to be balanced, the total mass X distance must be equal on both sides. The steps of this project were to find out more about our partner, then find out a few challenges and successes they experienced in their lives. After learning about balance, we had to make a blueprint for our mobile that explained how it would balance.
The challenges and success in our partners lives had to balance out in the mobile (see blueprint below). Then we built objects to represent each challenge and success in their lives. My partner's name is Brittany Seymour. Brittany's challenges were; writing a report on Kenya, taking a two year class in church to confirm, and jumping of a 25 foot waterfall. I chose to represent these with a fake report, a cross, and a water droplet. Brittany's successes were; graduating eighth grade, saving up money for a car, and getting onto a competitive soccer team. I represented these successes with a diploma, a wooden car, and a soccer net.
The next step in this project was to measure the mass, volume and density of our objects (see object chart below). I measured the mass using a scale. I calculated the volume using the displacement method and/or tracing my object onto graph paper and counting the squares, then multiplying by the hight. I calculated the density by dividing the mass by the volume. I used wooden doweling for the rods of my mobile.
Overall, my mobile turned out really well. It looked close to what I had planed it to look in my blueprints. A mistake I made was not calculating in enough weight for the wooden doweling in my blueprints. If I were to do this project again, I would have spent more time making the finished mobile look more colorful and exciting because mine is boring. But overall, I feel that I worked really hard on this project, and I am proud of my finished mobile.

Brittany Seymour
Brittany Seymour was born on August 22nd 1997 to Kirsten and Anthony Seymour. 10 years later, Brittany celebrated one of the best birthday party of her life. At the party, there were lots of Brittany’s friends. Brittany and her friends really enjoyed they limo ride and how “there was sparkling apple cider in the limo...” Brittany and her friends had a lot of fun at this birthday party celebrating Brittany’s 10th Birthday. Even though Brittany is now 14, she will always look back at her 10th birthday party and smile.
Brittany lives in Carlsbad, California with her Mom, Dad, brother Preston (10), and sisters Alexus (14), and Ashley (11). Brittany also has a 22 year old ½ brother who lives in Texas named Anthony. Another interesting fact about Brittany’s family is that she has a great grandmother who is 103 years old. She also shares her life with her many pets. She has three dogs; Remi, Nikki and Mochi, two cats; Panther and Dolly, a bird; Magoo, and a sugar glider named Tom. Brittany enjoys playing soccer and hanging out with her friends.
Brittany has had lots of successes in her life. Brittany was very proud when she graduated eight grade and this is one of her major successes. She also has saved up over $1,000 for a car. Brittany was also very proud when she got onto a competitive soccer team. She had to practice a lot to get onto the team; but she finally made it and she is very proud of this accomplishment.
Brittany also experienced some challenges in her life. These include writing a 10 page report on Kenya, and being brave enough to jump of a 25 foot waterfall. One of Brittany’s other challenges was confirming in church. She had to take a two year class that included taking lots of tests and quizzes.
When Brittany is older, she plans on becoming a Criminal Investigator and/or a lawyer. She also would like to meet Justin Bieber. Brittany dreams of someday visiting the Bahamas. I am sure Brittany will grow up to accomplish her goals and become successful at what ever she chooses to do.
Reflection:
1. ? I have gotten to know Brittany Seymour, my BioGRAPHS partener, better through interview questions and just talking. I also learned that if I take the time to get to know someone, everyone has challenges and successes.
2. I learned lots of important skills with this project. For example, I learned a lot about writing through this project because I had to write a feature article about Brittany Seymour. Before I started this project, I didn't even know what a feature article was. I also learned how to communicate better with my partner.
