Othello - Book & Play Project
Reflect upon Othello:
1) Love him or hate him, what did you like about Iago as a character?- Some of the things I like about Iago as a character is his cleverness and his ability to predict other peoples reactions to certain events. I think those traits could be very helpful if Iago would choose to use hem in a good way instead of to hurt people.
2) After reading Othello, what is the danger in spreading rumors?
- The danger of spreading rumors is that other people will be very hurt and then everyone could go against each other and kill people like in the book.
3) What do you think was the most important theme from Othello? Why?
- I think the most important theme in Othello is trust and betrayal because that is the theme that the whole book is about how Iago deceives everyone into trusting him and then stabs them in the back later.
Reflect upon The Stage:
1) What theme from Othello did your group choose to interpret, and how did you do it?
- My group's theme was trust and betrayal because it was the most prevalent in our Othello scene. We interpreted it to be in a high school with a girl who tells a secret to her friend and then it spreads around and she is betrayed.
2) What scene from Othello did your group choose, and what was it about?
- We chose act 4 scene 2 where Othello confronts Desdemona about his suspicions with out telling her exactly what they are with causes confusion.
3) What was it like to put on a play for a real audience?
- When we played out our scene for a real audience it was really stressful because I was worried about missing my sound cues because it was hard to hear the actors from the back of the commons.
Reflect upon your Acting Company Role:
1) What were your responsibilities in this task?
- I was the lighting and sound technician and my job was to record our instruments and use the sound track to enhance the mood of both of our scenes. Also it was my job to work in the sound booth and fix the lights.
2) In what ways were you successful with this role?
- I was successful when I recorded my groups instruments on time and didn't miss my cues during the play. Also, I think our song really helped the mood of the scene and it helped fill awkward gaps.
3) In what ways were you not responsible with this role?
- I was not successful when I forgot to bring in the candles for one day late.
Reflect upon the Habit of Heart:
1) Wich Habit of Heart did you connect the most with during this project?
- Intellectual Curiosity, To use critical thinking and is open to exploring ideas, how their ideas affect their world, thought-provoking questions; embodies hope and seeks solutions.
2) How has this project shown you how individuals can have a positive or negative affect on the group?
- Well, when my other lighting and sound partner didn't bring in the song, it put us behind for rehearsal and when my other group member didn't bring their instruments we couldn't record. But when everyone did their job we worked well together.
3) What kinds of problems did you and your group run into, and how did you fix them?
- our main problem was people forgetting to do/bring something for the next day and we fixed this problem by having our stage manager text them and remind them when they were at home.
4) Why is it important to read Shakespeare's plays, as difficult as it is to read?
- I think it is important to read Shakespeare because it teaches us a lot about history and improving our reading comprehension because we have to think harder to understand the play.
